Pergo created laminate flooring and was the first to market it to consumers in North America. In just five years, Pergo was in every flooring and carpet store and every Home Depot in America. Its brand awareness was ubiquitous—consumers knew and loved Pergo. Sounds like the ideal scenario to launch Pergo to designers and architects—right? Wrong!

Architects and designers are consumers too. And while they recognized and knew the Pergo brand, they were very skeptical. Research confirmed that they perceived Pergo strictly as a consumer product for residential applications. We nicknamed this the “guinea pig syndrome.”
